What is the underslung grenade launcher in Battlefield 3?

Jan 26th

Assignment (Assault Class): Professional Russian – 20 kills with Underslung Grenade Launcher

How do I use, find equip or arm the underslung grenade launcher? First off, there is no weapon called the underslung grenade launcher. You need to unlock the M320 grenade launcher, so you may have already used it and didn’t realize it. After you unlock the M320 select an assault rifle like the AEK-971, equip underslung rail, make sure your gadget 1 position is the M320 grenade launcher.

To unlock the M320 you need an Assault score of 11,000. What’s an assault score, you ask? Whether you play as Assault, Engineer, Support or Recon – you earn points for that class as you play. So that means you play Assault class until you reach 11,000 points.

How do you check your points for Assault class? The easiest way I can think of to check your points by class is to go to http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/ and click the Solider Stats link, the look down the right hand sidebar for your number of points in Assault.

Battlefield 3 Weapon Focus: M16A3 & M16A4

Jan 24th

Posted by George in Video Games

You would think the M16A4 would be more advanced than the M16A3 due to it being the newer version, and in real life this is likely the case. In Battlefield 3, the 2 weapons are almost identical except for their fire modes (see below). Although the Wikia page for the M16 mentions that the M16A3 has a slightly faster empty reload time , the statistics listed under each variant are exactly the same -  1.80 loaded and 2.37 empty.

M16A3 Fire Modes: Semi Automatic/Automatic
M16A4 Fire Modes: Semi Automatic/3 Round Burst

After using the M16A3 and getting used to pelting enemies with automatic fire it took some getting used to 3 round burst mode.

Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Tips

Jan 24th

Battlefield 3 Multiplayer tips of various levels from common sense to more advanced.

Set traps – When you have C4, or even better if you have Claymore mines.
Place your trap in a place that has only 1 or 2 ways to get to you, and try to cover the entry. Then get irritating – shoot a bunch of enemies up (even if you miss) or even just fire around a lot until you draw attention. When someone comes, set off your C4 (you have to be able to monitor someone’s approach) or if you used a Claymore, its set-it-and-forget-it. Just wait to hear the BOOM.

Set a different trap – Get REAL annoying by setting up a mortar and shell the enemy. If they know what they are doing, they’ll come after you. If your team knows what they are doing, they will cover entryways to your position and shoot the “fish in the barrel” as they approach. Get ready though, you will get killed because after enough time they will probably get through.

Be ready at all times – When you are running around, when you are sniping (in the scope), when you are sitting still in that dark building where you can’t be seen, wherever you are be ready to start shooting at all times. For one thing, that always means reloading after you have fired your weapon. If you have an M249 you might reload when you are in a “safe place” when you get down to 20-50 rounds (personal choice, of course).

When an enemy soldier surprises you and comes into view, right away you have to be aiming and firing. That means being ready to fire immediately when you run into someone face-to-face at short distance or when someone runs right in front of where you happen to be sitting/standing/camping. Even if you are in your “secret spot” you may find out its not so secret after all.

Don’t get distracted by the MAV – If there is an MAV sticking with you, following you wherever you go, maybe you can shoot it down. Or, maybe the operator hopes you will try so he can get you to stand still long enough to kill you. The MAV, about as big as your torso in the game, will kill you by running into you. Its better to ignore it, run away from it trying to lose it and not running to more of your buddies for those who are good enough to follow you. Or, if he’s following you close and you have C-4 you can toss it on a wall if in a closed space (just don’t kill yourself, too).

Realize that the MAV, like the mortar and other loud or obnoxious weapons can be a trap.  The guy with the MAV doesn’t have to do well to keep your team distracted enough for his team to win. All he needs to do is either get you looking up or running around looking for him while he’s in a “safe” guarded location.

These are Battlefield 3 tips I’ve quickly typed out as I saw them on the screen waiting for Multiplayer, and Co-Op matches and Campaign games to start. Some will contain typos and synonyms and may later be revised. If you see one that’s worded wrong just drop a comment below and I’ll see about getting it squared away.

Hey, help me keep these in-game tips correct, leave a comment if you see anything wrong.

  • A flash suppressor will lower your accuracy slightly
  • Suppressors use low velocity round, using a suppressor will increase bullet drop
  • Handguns are the quickest weapons to deploy, much quicker than reloading your primary weapon
  • Weapons are more accurate firing in short bursts
  • You get points for kill assist equal to the amount of damage you did
  • Killing an enemy that recently killed one on your teammates will give you an Avenger Bonus
  • The Repair tool can be used not only to fix friendly vehicles but to damage enemy vehicles
  • (not in-game hint) The Repair tool can be used to kill enemy soldiers
  • Advanced dog tags (right) are hard to earn and show off your achievements
  • Your dog tags are shown on your victim’s killcam
  • Standard dog tags (left) are awarded for every
  • Killing an enemy that is doing damage to a teammate will give you a Savior bonus
  • Ribbons are awarded for good performance during the course of a round
  • Heavy barrels are good for long, accurate fire but increase the amount of recoil
  • Infrared vision mode makes it easier to see deployed mines
  • All projectiles are effected by gravity, aim high and above long range targets
  • Main Tanks have strong anti-vehicle weapons from a distance, but close in they have weak spots
  • You can Lock On to a Laser Designated target even if you don have line-of-sight
  • All Lock On weapons have a maximum locking range
  • Rocket and grenade launchers have a minimum arming distance before they can do their full damage
  • Spotting enemy armored vehicles helps your airborne teammates respond to the threat
  • Armored vehicles have the ability to sprint. At these top speeds, these vehicles lose some maneuverability
  • All jeeps are resistant to small arms fire but only armored jeeps have doors
  • In Conquest reviving a teammate will refund you a ticket. This also applies to attackers in Rush.
  • In Conquest a team loses when drained of all tickets
  • You can unlock weapons for Multiplayer by playing the Co-Op missions
  • Sub machineguns and personal defense weapons lack power at distance
  • You can unlock additional ammunition types for your mortar and shotgun
  • Earn weapon accessories for your primary weapons by making kills with it
  • All weapons have 10 core accessories that are unlocked by using the weapons
  • Weapons can have different accessories, even within the same group
  • You can spawn on a squad member in a vehicle as long as there is an open seat
  • Flechette darts are capable of punching through multiple layers of targets and thin layers of wood and metal
  • A straight pull bolt lets you make rapid follow up shots with a bolt action rifle
  • Spotted enemy squad leaders can be identified by the red squad leader icon by their name
  • Squad leaders can set objectives by using the spot/communication function
  • If you are the last man alive in your squad, stay alive to provide a mobile spawn for your squad
  • During takeoff in a jet you need full throttle until you achieve altitude
  • Lots of bonus actions score more points if performed in a squad
  • Radio beacons allow your squad to spawn on a specific location instead of yourself
  • Only high power optics have scope sway
  • Claymore mines can be avoided by crouching or going prone when you move past them
  • As a Rush defender of you are too far away from your objectives your squad will not be able to spawn on you
  • Laser designated missiles will perform a top attack, giving them a damage bonus
  • The SOFLAM will actively designate targets even when you are not controlling the device
  • Weapon accessories can modify a weapon’s behavior, pay attention to the Customize screens
  • Rockets from the ATGM track towards the target in the scope
  • Red dot and Holographic scopes allow you to aim down the sites quicker than scopes

Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Guide

Jan 19th

Posted by George in Video Games

Welcome to my Battlefield 3 Multiplayer gaming guide. This will by no means be exhaustive but should get you off to a great start. Questions? Leave them below in comments and if I have time and am still able, I’ll address your question.

First Things First: Join A Game

I’m going to assume you are playing the game on an Xbox, but some of this info will apply regardless of your gaming platform. From your main Battlefield 3 (BF3) menu, and using your multiplayer disc select Multiplayer. On the next screen you have lots of options. I usually just click Quick Match, then go down to Game Mode and select Conquest, Team Deathmatch or Squad Deathmatch because those are the game types I prefer [read about the BF3 Game Modes]. You can also select a map, but I usually skip this and just click Find a Game. When the game stats select a class and, if you want to, customize your loadout.

Next: How to Quit a Multiplayer Match

For some reason it can be a bit confusing about how to quit a Battlefield 3 Multiplayer match. After the game you see the scores, then you get a run-down of your ribbons, points, new unlocks etc. Then it goes back to the score board and the whole time you have been able to see in the upper right a countdown to the next match. But there is no quit button. More >

Battlefield 3: How Do You Get to the Overpass on Tehran Highway?

Jan 19th

Posted by George in Video Games

I was playing Conquest on Tehran Highway tonight and got sandwiched by a squad on 2 or 3 up against the wall prone in the image from ea/Dice, battlelog.battlefield.comdirt near the edge of the map and 1 guy on overwatch on the overpass. I drove in there in a BMP feeling all safe from being sniped and ambushed to recover a flag and this guy on top of the overpass – you know, the highway running ABOVE the truck flag area? The one whose columns you sometimes hide behind?

I looked around and looked but found no ladders before the game ended, felling like I’d missed it. Google provided the answer. This youtube video How To Get On The Overpass On The Map Tehran Highway explains basically you need to equip your MAV at the right spot beside the overpass (see the video below or click link for precise info). Battlefield 3 Second Impressions: 4.5 Stars

Jan 8th

Posted by George in Video Games

Having played Battlefield 3 for about 3 days now I’m revising my earlier 5 out of 5 star rating down to 4.5 star. I’ve played BF3 Campaign and BF3 Multiplayer. In BF3 Multiplayer I’ve played Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch and accidentally got into Conquest not paying attention to the menu.

Why I Dropped BF3 Down To 4.5 Stars?

CURBS KILL

One of the most frustrating things in a game is basic stuff like getting stuck on a curb and dying. I have gone to run over curbs and curb-sized stuff and got stuck. Why should I hit JUMP to get over something I would walk over in real life? We’re talking about 6 niches high, and I need to jump … really?! More >

How Do I get Those Cool Custom Dog Tags for Battlefield 3?

Jan 8th

Posted by George in Video Games

You might be wondering how to get those cool custom dog tags you see everyone using each time you get killed in game.First of all, make sure when you are looking at your dog tags you SCROLL DOWN the list even though most or all of the dog tags you see are blacked out.

Check out the link below for more details … but you can watch the Act of Valor movie trailer (about 3 mins, 17 sec long) and afterward you are prompted for Xbox, PS3 or PC. Click your choice. For the Xbox I can tell you after you’ve seen the screen telling you that you’ve redeemed the dog tags sucessfully, the next time you log in to BF3 you will see a notification of new dog tags.

Here’s the post with links for free BF3 dog tags (ignore the Dr Pepper expiration date, just go to their website).

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT NOTE: ADVANCED DOG TAGS (RIGHT SIDE)

If you want to use the Advanced Dog tags, from game unlocks, you must have 50 kills with the knife (assassinations) first. The dog tags above, and possibly others that are given away, are not subject to the 50 knife kills rule.
