Halo Wars Hints for Mission 05 Arcadia Outskirts
Apr 3rd
The beginning of 05 – Arcadia Outskirts begins with your troops running, run to fight another day (well, after your base is built).
MAP MOVEMENT HINTS
Left Bumper = All units, selects all of your units on the map
Right Bumper = Local units, selects all of your units on the screen
Tap A = select unit
Hold + A = paint to select units, move the cursor around while holding down A to select more units
Double Tap A = selects all of your units on the map of that type. If you Double Tap A on a Warthog it will select all of your Warthogs on the map
Ok, just scroll down, there will be no secrets, no surprise, this is a total spoiler.
Note – Winning: This is not the only way to beat this map, and doesn’t guarantee success. This is what I used and it worked for me on Normal difficulty.
FIRST SOME 05 ARCADIA OUTSKIRTS GAMEPLAY TIPS
Tip 1 – RUN! Don’t stop and fight, run and gun. Your units will shoot as they go but you will continually have to click X to make them move, otherwise they will tend to stop and fight. Get to the crater!
Tip 2 – INTERSECTIONS: Study the intersections (especially the ones near your base) with a strategic eye. Create choke points and kill zones for enemy units. You will want to lay down overlapping fields of fire. At first you will lay your troops in the emplacements with barrels in them near your base. As Arcadia Outskirts progresses you can move your forces farther away from the base, but always keep in mind if you don’t keep at least one unit in the emplacements near your base you are wide open to a quck assault or a rear assault.
Tip 3 – THE HIGHWAY: Yep, there’s a raise highway and its not just for looks, its a passage to/from the enemy base and they will use it to get right to your base. When you have enough units take the highway using the choke point that’s created by the emplacements along the road.
Regroup and reorganize in the crater, just follow the arrows and keep clicking forward. Don’t stop to fight, even though you may be tempted.
You’ll have to kill the Covenant in the crater before you can build your base. Get your base up and running as quickly as possible, though you will have a little time before the Covenant send you a welcmoing party to your new home. If you’ve kept enough of your units alive, and build some new units. I chose infantry and Spartans at first and stationed them in nearby emplacements since they are protected.
To the north of your base, is another base waiting to be built. Build, defend and fight until Omega Team arrives (6 Spartans) and comandeer a Wraith or two. Now at some point you are warned about a mega turret the Covenant has, and its nasty unless you stay out of its way – luckily it can’t spin 360 degrees.
So head north from your base, make a left (first or second left) and you will run into the highway (not highway access though) and an empty base pad where you can build – but don’t! Keep moving right next the highway sticking to the left until you see the Covenant mega turrett. Attack and destroy the turret making sure your units don’t move to the right where it will blast them a la C&C’s Obelisk of Light. All you need to worry about if you stay far enough to the left is Covenant reinforcements they will send to defend it. Once you destroy the mega turrett put Marines and flamethrowers into the nearby emplacements and build your new base.
After you’ve secured the intersection near your base, the raised highway leading off to the northwest of your base, and this second base you will have a much easier time, though the Covenant will still send more units against you. Get your second base up, get some resources flowing in (more supply pads). Soon afterward I added an Air Pad and a Vehicle Depot. Get 4 Reactors built so you can build Vultures for a knockout punch. I had to sacrifice some units due to the way I put infantry in all of the emplacements I found (including the one just south of the Covenant base). Gather some troops and go kill them off, preferably sending them to the north (far) side of the base so there is less chance of provoking a Covenant counter-attack. Each Vulture is manned by 6 population, so you will need 18 available for 3 Vultures, or you can mix 1 or 2 Vultures in with your current units.
KNOCKOUT PUNCH
If you’ve placed your units well, especially a couple of Spartans to the south of the Covenant base in the empacements you may be able to move one out to attack the 2 turrets farthest from their base – one on the raod to their base and the other just beofre you actually get to their base off to the right, northeast as you travel up the road (not the highway). Try to time your final attack so that you have a Mac Cannon blast available, send numerous troops from the raised highway, and also up the main road between the two bases. The Vulture(s) will help out in mopping up any defenses as you do this and you should be able to save both the Vulture’s mega barrage and your Mac Cannon balst for the Covenant base itself.
Gmail Improves Searching Mail
Apr 2nd
When you go into Gmail > Settings > Labs you’ll see a new feature has been added (well maybe you won’t see it because of the ever-growing number of Labs features, bu tits there)… its called Search Autocomplete. Gmail Lab’s Search Autocomplete acts exactly as it sounds. As you type in the Search Mail text box you will see suggestions.
Check out their post for more information.

April Fools from Google – Distributed Intelligence Switched On
Apr 1st
Some interesting reading from Google today, i admit had me vey interested for a couple of minutes until I ran into the CADIE website (C.A.D.I.E. – Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity) and realized it was April 1st also. These guys are a hoot, the CADIE site is a tad reminiscent of Terminator do you think, minus the military, of course.
Research group switches on world’s first “artificial intelligence” tasked-array system.
