MUTE A PLAYER ON XBOX LIVE CHAT IN GEARS OF WAR 3
NOTE: If you don’t have an Xbox 360 Headset, you should hear the players’ chatting as part of the game on your speakers or in your headphones. In any case, to see who is talking press the Xbox Controller’s Back button, indicated by a speaker icon showing up to thje left of their name/gamertag when they talk.
Why would you want to mute someone? I’ve heard players sit there and constantly sing, play music, one guy was rapping, I’ve listened to players fling obscenities as if trying to impress, listened to personal attacks containing racial slurs, and sadly more. Or, the player may be young and may not understand what you mean when you say, “Dude, you are sitting too close to your speakers,” and you “get to” listen to the louder parts of the game.
If you want to mute a player:
- From in the game hit your Guide button.
- Select Friends.
- Move to the far right tab (the one with an Xbox Controller icon at top)
- Now scroll down the list and select the person you want to mute with the A button
- Scroll down to mute and click A again.
You’ll see a notice that you’ve muted the player by name, and the mute button will change to say Unmute. This should work in most/all games since you are using the Guide button.
When you have the option to mute the player, you are also presented with other options: File Complaint and Submit Player Review as well as other. Submitting a player review can effect who you do and don’t get matched with in the future. You are more likely to be matched with a player who you’ve submitted a positive review about, than a player you’ve submitted a negative review about. For stronger action you can file a complaint about a player on Xbox Live, which could mean a suspension or ban for a player who has broken the Xbox Live terms of service (TOS).
From least to most severe your options for offensive/caustic players are as follows:
- Mute a player
- Submit a player review
- File a complaint
