Having played Battlefield 3 for about 3 days now I’m revising my earlier 5 out of 5 star rating down to 4.5 star. I’ve played BF3 Campaign and BF3 Multiplayer. In BF3 Multiplayer I’ve played Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch and accidentally got into Conquest not paying attention to the menu.
Why I Dropped BF3 Down To 4.5 Stars?
One of the most frustrating things in a game is basic stuff like getting stuck on a curb and dying. I have gone to run over curbs and curb-sized stuff and got stuck. Why should I hit JUMP to get over something I would walk over in real life? We’re talking about 6 inches high, and I need to jump … really?!
SOME CHECKPOINTS CREATE A “GROUNDHOG DAY” EFFECT (Movie Reference)
Another peeve is checkpoints. I am currently playing through the Kaffarov Mission in Campaign and when you get killed at certain points, places where there could have been a checkpoint, you are sent back IMO too far. not everywhere, just in some places. There’s a firefight in a basement/series of underground rooms where you make your way past a group of Kaffarov’s men outnumbering you 3-to-1 or more and if you get all the way toward what feels like the end of clearing that room, you start all the way back upstairs and have for a door to be busted open before you can go back downstairs and try the firefight again.
So, in summary I think BF3 has some poorly chosen checkpoints that make you repeat some things over and over and over too much, and those curbs and other things I get stuck on can get pretty frustrating.
