How to unlock Cricket TXTM8 3G Cell Phone
Apr 6th
You may be asking yourself, as I was moments ago, “How do I unlock my Cricket TXTM8 3G

Cricket TXTM8 3G cell phone
Cell Phone?” After locking your phone you are presented with a message:
Keypad is locked.
Press unlock
then <OK> to unlock.
But having just bought your new Cricket TXTM8 3G, you can’t remember an Unlock key on pg 7 of your Cricket TXTM8 3G User Guide! That’s because there is no Unlock button, its a function of one of the upper buttons when the phone is locked.
The first time I locked my phone and got that message I looked at the keyboard for an unlock button. Sure enough the Fn (function) button has what looks like a padlock, so I tried that to no avail. Next I tried the key above that, then the one above that until I hit the upper left key (labeled the Menu key in the user’s guide), then the prompt changed and I hit the OK key and poof! Note, when your phone is locked, the upper left button’s label at the bottom left of your screen changes to say “Unlock” … so if you forget, you have a reminder.
TURN ON/OFF KEYBOARD LOCK ON YOUR TXTM8 3G
From the main screen, press Menu (Upper Left button) > Settings > Phone > Key Guard. Your options are Off, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds or 30 seconds. Select the one you want and press OK. If the rest of the Phone settings are correct press OK again and you are set!
WHY TURN ON KEY GUARD?
Have you ever called someone by accident while you were walking around and perhaps your phone was in its carrier or your pocket or whatever? Key Guard prevents that and makes you purposely unlock your phone before dialing.
The US Army’s Mind-Reading Battle Helmet
Mar 21st
I read a 2008 Discover magazine article today and found something really very interesting. Technology and science have reached a point where the US Army is seriously funding a project allowing soldiers to send thoughts and commands to other soldiers or equipment in the battlefield. Time/CNN’s post says:
B-movie buffs may recall that Clint Eastwood used similar “brain-computer interface” technology in 1982′s Firefox, named for the Soviet fighter plane whose weapons were controlled by the pilot’s thoughts. (Clint was sent to steal the plane, natch.) Yet it’s not as far-fetched as you might think: video gamers are eagerly awaiting a crude commercial version of brain wave technology — a $299 headset from San Francisco-based Emotiv Systems — in summer 2009.

Transferring Pictures and Contacts from LG Cosmos
Feb 3rd
I had to transfer my contacts from my old Verizon LG Cosmos cellphone (LG Cosmos VN250) to my new one, and move my photos (pictures) from my LG Cosmos to my PC (Windows XP) – but I couldn’t find a simple, quick and clear “how to”… so I’m writing one.
This article describes how to get contacts, pictures, sounds and other multimedia from your LG Verizon Cosmos phone onto your Windows computer (Windows XP and probably Windows Vista and Windows 7).
WHAT YOU NEED TO MOVE FILES TO YOUR WINDOWS COMPUTER
Your Phone’s Charger/USB Data Cord
A microSD card (picture | buy one)
LG USB Modem Driver (download from LG.com)
GETTING YOUR PC READY FOR THE FILE TRANSFER
The first thing you need to do is download and install the LG USB Modem Driver, click the link above and look for the Download LG USB Modem Driver link. Your computer should be ready now. Make sure the driver is compatible with your version of Windows.
Next you’ll be moving the data from your phone into your Windows computer.
MOVING YOUR DATA TO YOUR WINDOWS PC
- Swing open the USB and microSD covers on the sides if your phone (USB is on bottom side edge and the microSD is on the right side edge)
- Unplug the USB plug from the power cord adapter and plug one end into your phone (the same place you charge it) and the other end into your computer’s USB port (your phone’s battery begins charging)
- Put the microSD card into the phone’s microSD port
- If this is the first time you’ve used a microSD card you’ll have to move your media to the card. From looking at the folders I see on my screen it looks like you can transfer contact info, pictures, ringtones and sounds from your phone to your PC
- From your phone’s main screen press your round OK button, then press #9, scroll down to 3. Tools, scroll up to *. USB Mass Storage
- A window pops up saying its connecting to your computer, then another window pops up and informs you that you are connected, and not to disconnect during the transfer.
Now you can set the phone down in a good spot and on your computer you should see either Windows Explorer listing the folders found on your micro SD card, a Windows prompt on what to do with the files on the micro SD card, or a program may open – all depending on the options you’ve selected as defaults in Windows.
From here you can save the pictures and your contacts on your computer somewhere you can find them.

Electric Cars to Get Charging Stations Across South Carolina
Nov 22nd
I heard on the radio this morning and several online outlets have also reported that South Carolina is getting 80 electric charging stations installed – 40 of those beginning in early December, 2010.
Here in South Carolina, the electric companies, and hopefully, the economy will get a slight boost by the installation of these stations. Columbia, Greenville, Charleston, Conway, Myrtle Beach, Spartanburg, Rock Hill and Union will have charging stations installed for owners of cars like the Chevrolet Volt (pictured at left, image from Chevrolet.com) and the Nissan Leaf.
In the long run gas stations will suffer or convert, with a gas war sure to start up with companies like GM saying that they will be transitioning much of their production into electric cars by 2015. In other areas, adoption by companies like GE will help with the electric car’s availability and price. With help from GE (and likely other major players) these green, efficient electric cars hopefully will experience a price drop bringing them more solidly into the average car owner’s reach more quickly.
Plug-In Carolina, a nonprofit founded four years ago in Charleston by Jim Poch, is coordinating the effort with the help of two grants from the S.C. Energy Office totaling $480,000 and with support from utility companies, including SCE&G in the Midlands, Santee Cooper in the Lowcountry and Duke Energy in the Upstate.
