My Internet Connection – Comcast Diary
May 5th
I intend to do some record-keeping here about my Internet. With the new GRFS Beta out, Internet disconnections are a little more of concern since the beta is limited. Comcast may get around to upgrading my neighborhood’s hardware at some point but for now it seems Saturdays before 5pm are really heavy – meaning multiplayer dropped connection about every 5 minute on average. I came back later after 8pm and have had FEW drops.
Probably no one will find this interesting, but I can keep track of my Internet service this way… the newest entries are at the top.

Marware Screen Protector for the Kindle Fire
Apr 13th
The Marware Screen Protector for the Kindle Fire is worth its cost considering the alternative of leaving your Kindle Fire’s screen unprotected. At under $20 as of the writing of this post, the Marware screen protector is worth buying to protect your $200 Kindle Fire’s screen since its useless without a screen! Protect your investment.
As part of my recent purchase of the Kindle Fire I got a free month of Amazon Prime service, which saved me $7.00 off of the screen protector, so if you have an Amazon Prime membership or if you got a free month with your Kindle Fire purchase take advantage of the savings.
Installing the screen protector consists of peeling 3 layers of plastic and leaving the adhesive side of the center layer on your Kindle. The video below will probably save you a lot of hassle trying to figure out how to get it right the first time so you don’t waste your second Marware screen protector.

Amazon Response: Cleaning Kindle Fire Screen
How do I clean my Kindle Fire screen? This was the simple question that resulted in this post.
Searching the Amazon site and doing some googling came up with too many unuseful answers, so I took another trip through the included Kindle Fire User’s Guide. The (partial) answer is in Appendix A under Maintaining Your Kindle, and I think still requires some due diligence through the Amazon site for a 100% answer. To find this, open your Kindle Fire User’s Guide and in the table of contents move to Appendix A and click Product Information.

MW3 Multiplayer Weapon Proficiencies
Feb 28th
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 weapon proficiencies are earned by continued use of your weapons as you level them up (separate from leveling up your player). The longer you use a weapon, the more proficiencies you earn.
Proficiences are used along with weapon attachments to make you and your chosen weapon a more dangerous foe to face on the battlefield. Not all proficiencies are available for all weapon types.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 weapon proficiencies are:
- Kick – reduced recoil
- Impact – increased penetration of your rounds
- Attachment – allows the use of 2 attachments
- Focus – reduces flinching when you are hit while firing
- Breath – reduces sight sway
- Stability – a sort of automatic “breath” where idle weapon sway is reduced
- Melee – faster recovery after melee attacking a foe
- Speed – faster movement speed
- Damage – increased damage
- Range – increased range for your weapon

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has several attachments you can earn while leveling up your weapons. Attachments are awarded as your weapon (not you) level up. The exception is launchers, which have no attachments.

COD Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Perks
Feb 27th
Perk 1
Perk 1 slot perks are Recon, Sleight of Hand, Blind Eye, Extreme Conditioning and Scavenger.
Perk 2
Perk 2 slot perks are Quickdraw, Blast shield, Hardline, Assassin and Overkill.
Perk 3
Perk 3 slot perks are Stalker, Steady Aim, Sitrep and Dead Silence.
MW3 Perks
COD MW3 perks have 3 “slots,” if you will. Each slot allows one perk to be selected. For example you can use Recon, Quickdraw and Stalker (a slot 1, 2 and 3 perk) but not Recon, Sleight of Hand and Scavenger (all slot 1 perks). Perks give you certain abilities on the battlefield that you can tailor to your needs using your custom classes (customized loadouts).
As you progress, perks are unlocked and as you use the perks, they can level up to their respective Pro levels. So there is Recon Pro, Sleight of Hand Pro, Quickdraw Pro and Dead Silence Pro. The Pro perk levels add new abilities to their counterparts.
COD Modern Warfare 3 Sniper Rifles

List of COD MW3 Sniper Rifles
MW3 AS50 Sniper Rifle (unlocked level 22)
MW3 Barrett .50cal Sniper Rifle (unlocked level 4)
MW3 Dragunov Sniper Rifle (unlocked level 12)
MW3 MSR Sniper Rifle (unlocked level 66)
MW3 L118A Sniper Rifle (unlocked level 4)
MW3 RSASS Sniper Rifle (unlocked level 44)

Sniper rifles are the kings of distance, and in COD MW3 they are also the kings of the one shot kill. No other weapon offers the accuracy and deadliness of sniper rifles at extreme ranges.
Sniper rifles are either bolt-action or semi automatic, and have some of the slowest fire rates in MW3. Generally speaking, the bolt-action rifles (L118A and the MSR) are more powerful than the semi-automatic sniper rifles (AS50, Barrett .50cal, Dragunov and RSASS). Also, the sniper rifles have established one shot kill zones, generally from the lower torso on up, although some require a shot in the upper torso on up and one of these babies requires a headshot for a one shot kill.
MW3 Best Defense Against Loss of Red Dot after EMP
Feb 27th
One of my favorites in the UMP45 with red dot, and possibly a second attachment. However, when the other team EMPs the red dot is GONE and you have to estimate the center when firing. The best defense I can think of is to switch to your secondary. Even though Infinity Ward nerfed the akimbo FMG9, they are still pretty useful – and still over-used, in fact. At any rte, the point isn’t to set up akimbo FMG9s, but rather, if the loss of your red dot sight makes your shooting less effective, switch to your secondary.
So there’s the best defense against EMP loss of your red dot sight, change to your secondary weapon!
