LastPass Overload after Security Notification

May 5th

Posted by George in Internet

LastPass (www.lastpass.com) announced via Twitter (LastPass Twitter feed)  that their servers are overloaded, so you may have trouble logging in to the service, and their Security Notification (read Security Notification) tells you how to access your passwords in the mean time.

For now here are what I feel are the most important parts of their Security Notification – how to stay safe while they are working and access your logins:

1. OVERLOADED – DON’T CHANGE PASSWORDS YET

We’re overloaded handling support and the sheer load of password changes is slowing us down. We’ve implemented a way for you to verify your email and then not be immediately forced to change your password for that IP, access from any other IP would bring you back to email verification. You can now wait a few days if you know you’ll be on the same IP without loss of security, and due to this overloading we think that’s prudent to wait.

We’re asking if you’re not being asked to change your password then hold off — we’re protecting everyone.

2. ACCESS YOUR LOGINS NOW – OFFLINE

You can access your data via LastPass in offline mode (pull the cable out of the wall then login) or by downloading LastPass Pocket : https://lastpass.com/misc_download.php (choose your OS)

A note about the LastPass Pocket link, you may have to click the “full list of downloads for your platform” link to download LastPass Pocket.

Gmail background sending, mew feature in Labs

Gmail Adds Background Sending

Apr 30th

Posted by George in Email and Gmail

A new feature has been added into Gmail Labs, Background Send. Background send could save time while you go onto other things and let Gmail handle the email as you continue on. Google had this to say:

We’re always looking for ways to make Gmail faster. One of the most common delays happens after you hit that “Send” button, when you’re waiting patiently for a couple seconds for Gmail to send your message. If you send a lot of email, that can add up to a lot of lost time.

I’ve got to admit that I agree, and I’ll be reviewing and pruning my Labs features and trying this one out soon. What do **you** think about Gmails new background send feature?  Sound off below in the comments, be sure to tell us if you are actually using this feature or just commenting on it.

Mass Effect 2 Tips

Apr 17th

Some ME2 tips from the game during load sequences.

  • Kill enemies who aren’t in cover first. They can be dangerous if they close on you
  • Don’t squander heavy weapon ammo on lesser enemies. You never know what you’ll meet around the corner
  • Find new weapons to improve your squad’s offensive capabilities
  • Heavy weapons require special ammunition. Look for large ammo containers (called Power cells)
  • Who knows what’s out there in the galaxy? Explore and find out!
  • Kill shotgun-wielding enemies before they get too close for their weapons to be effective
  • Geth traditionally have strong shields and low health. Prepare accordingly.
  • Fire some weapons more quickly by tapping RT
  • If enemy krogan get close to you they’ll charge. You don’t want that
  • Research upgrades to improve your squad’s weapons and powers
  • Ammo powers last an entire mission. Put them on each of your weapons

ME2 Basic Controls – Power Wheel and Weapon Selection

Apr 14th

Mass Effect 2′s LB and RB access important game controls.

The LB (left bumper) not only lets Commander Shepard change switch weapons, he can also switch the weapons of his sqaud members. The same goes for the RB (right bumper) controls – the power wheel. The power wheel gives Shepard access to his and his squad’s powers, allowing up to three powers to be “fired off” in combat all at one time.

Is Gmail Broken? NewsFlash!

Apr 7th

Well, is Gmail broken? Some would say yes, but I say no, at least not for me. I have a WinXP computer and its probably 3+ years old, though I do have 2GB of RAM, its otherwise an ordinary, outdated Windows PC and Gmail runs with all of the bells and whistles I’ve chosen just fine. So what is Gmail fixing?

Here’s a quick list, and you can read the entire Gmail Fixing the Little Things post along with their cool little graphic, too. Here’s that list of changes:

  • auto-save contacts setting
  • better warnings for typos in email addresses
  • fewer annoying error pop-ups
  • easier transitions between certain actions
  • keyboard shortcut guide for everyone
  • refresh button repalces refresh link

If that little list whetted your appetite pay the folks at Gmail a visit and click the link above!

How to unlock Cricket TXTM8 3G Cell Phone

Apr 6th

You may be asking yourself, as I was moments ago, “How do I unlock my Cricket TXTM8 3G

Cricket TXTM8 3G cell phone

Cell Phone?” After locking your phone you are presented with a message:

Keypad is locked.
Press unlock
then <OK> to unlock.

But having just bought your new Cricket TXTM8 3G, you can’t remember an Unlock key on pg 7 of your Cricket TXTM8 3G User Guide! That’s because there is no Unlock button, its a function of one of the upper buttons when the phone is locked.

The first time I locked my phone and got that message I looked at the keyboard for an unlock button. Sure enough the Fn (function) button has what looks like a padlock, so I tried that to no avail. Next I tried the key above that, then the one above that until I hit the upper left key (labeled the Menu key in the user’s guide), then the prompt changed and I hit the OK key and poof! Note, when your phone is locked, the upper left button’s label at the bottom left of your screen changes to say “Unlock” … so if you forget, you have a reminder.

TURN ON/OFF KEYBOARD LOCK ON YOUR TXTM8 3G

From the main screen, press Menu (Upper Left button) > Settings > Phone >  Key Guard. Your options are Off, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds or 30 seconds. Select the one you want and press OK. If the rest of the Phone settings are correct press OK again and you are set!

WHY TURN ON KEY GUARD?

Have you ever called someone by accident while you were walking around and perhaps your phone was in its carrier or your pocket or whatever? Key Guard prevents that and makes you purposely unlock your phone before dialing.
