What Do YOU Think About GOW 3 Alternate Control Scheme?
Dec 27th
I found a video by arCtiC of team Amazyn about the Alternate Controller Scheme for Xbox 360 controller, and wondered how many of you use the alternate VS the default controller schemes? I haven’t tried it out yet, but am considering it. I need any edge I can get as an “older” gamer and I’m still playing around with my sensitivity settings.
So, sound off below, what is you preference (default or alternate), and why?
How Do I Mute a Player in Gears of War 3 on Xbox Live?
Dec 14th
MUTE A PLAYER ON XBOX LIVE CHAT IN GEARS OF WAR 3
NOTE: If you don’t have an Xbox 360 Headset, you should hear the players’ chatting as part of the game on your speakers or in your headphones. In any case, to see who is talking press the Xbox Controller’s Back button, indicated by a speaker icon showing up to thje left of their name/gamertag when they talk.
Why would you want to mute someone? I’ve heard players sit there and constantly sing, play music, one guy was rapping, I’ve listened to players fling obscenities as if trying to impress, listened to personal attacks containing racial slurs, and sadly more. Or, the player may be young and may not understand what you mean when you say, “Dude, you are sitting too close to your speakers,” and you “get to” listen to the louder parts of the game.

General Gears of War 3 Map Tactics
Submit your own map tips in comments below!
These tips are especially important in team games like versus mode Team Deathmatch. First, some general map tactics and tips that apply to all maps. Team tactics will win any battle, especially if your team captures and holds certain points on the map. Areas that are higher, near key weapons or terrain features, and offer overlapping fields of fire are important.
Its also of great benefit to know where to find the weapons on the map (weapon spawns) and where to expect your enemies to be going to and from. Know where the weapons are so you can use those more powerful weapons and know where your enemies will be going and you can plan safer routes of travel and know where to look for them when you go on the offensive or where they are entering into your defense.
Keep in mind on some maps that power weapons like the mulcher are just as well used as bait as well as picking them up for use. Speaking of bait, if you notice one of your teammates is hanging out behind some cover well-hidden, you can run past him to find an opposing player to harass. Fire at him until you get his attention and he fires back. You’ve become the bait now, so when he does fire back at you, turn and run. Make sure you run past your teammate who is hidden in cover in a great spot to nail the unwary enemy as he runs past.
PLACES THAT ARE HIGHER/RAISED
Areas of the map that offer an overview of areas below offer the importance of good view and field of fire. From a raised position you have more of a view of the battle and better fields of fire than someone below.

Dec 7th
Are you looking for Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Tips for Xbox Live online gaming? Here are some Gears of War 3 tips aimed at helping you live longer and in team matches to be more useful to your team. This post is not GOW3 tips for newbie players, or advanced Gears 3 tips – its somewhere in the intermediate skill range after you’ve mastered the basics of n00b GOW3 tips , and are comfortable with your Xbox controller, etc.
ITS A GAME, HAVE FUN.
Have fun and relax! If you are relaxed, generally speaking you’ll perform better. If you are frustrated and making Gears your life, then you are more likely to get yourself killed.- ONE PLAYER MATTERS.
Even you are not that great, you can still tip the balance in a firefight. Just get in there and be annoying if that’s your level of experience. Shoot at the same stuff your teammates are shooting at. - PROTECT THE SNIPER (OR BOOMER ETC)
Got a player on your team with a power weapon? Protect him. Hang around and spot and shoot opponents attracted to the fire of the major weapon your teammate is using. - TEAM PLAYER – THE MOB BEATS ONE MAN.
Be a team player – you’ll live longer. Being with other players increases your survivability and effectiveness. More >
Gears of War 3 Basic Newbie Tips for Multiplayer (Online)
Dec 2nd
Here are some gaming tips for Gears of War 3 online (multiplayer). Keep in mind this is a post for GOW3 online newbies by a GOW 3 online n00b (only 4 days online so far).
DON’T TAKE IT PERSONAL.
People with headsets may insult you, etc. They either do it to throw you off of your (already bad) game or they have no manners. In any case, don’t be distracted – forgive and forget and play and blow thewm away. Seriously, if you’re a n00b reading this you know your game’s already bad, right? So someone giving voice to it (even via extreme insult) is no news – just move on.- BE A MEDIC.
Especially in team matches where more deaths on your team mean you are closer to losing the round. Get up close to a team mate that has been downed (marked on your HUD) and press X when you are prompted after you are close enough. - SPOT THE ENEMY.
Aim at an enemy and click left thumbstick, you’ll highlight the enemy and your character will call it out so your teammates know. Plus, it makes that enemy visible everywhere because you’ll see the mark through walls! More >
Gears of War 2 Aiming Basics
Jun 1st
Are you looking to improve your aiming in Gears of War 2? Find out how to leave your opponents in the dust with as little effort as possible? Here are some Gears of War 2 Aiming Basics to get you started.
GET TO KNOW THE GOW2 CONTROLS
Face it, if you don’t know the controls you will not aim as good as possible in GOW2 (or any game, really). I break down the controllers into 3 areas…
1.Use a decent controller - choose a good controller that “feels good”. If the controller is awkward or moves too quickly or too slowly for you then you won’t get as much as possible from your aim. Case in point I own an original Xbox 360 Wireless controller and a Game Stop Xbox 360 wired controller. I love Game Stop for used games and affordable used accessories for my 360, but that controller (the least expensive I could find) just doesn’t “feel” good for me. Its too quirky, too quick. I *could* get used to it, but I’ve already trained myself on my Xbox 360 wireless controller and it has a natural feel for me.
2. Practice with your controller -Speaking of training myself on my Xbox 360 controller, you’ll want to spend hours getting used to the “feel” if your controller during gameplay. You want reload, take cover, evade, mantle, and reload to become second nature so that you are pressing the buttons without thinking. Expect to put over 10 hours into this if you are just starting the game, and much longer if you are also new to the Xbox 360.
3. Know the buttons on your controller – As stated in “Practice with your controller” you need to know the buttons on your controller… and not just shoot and move left and right.
- Left Trigger – Aim
This gives you a zoomed view of the battlefield and your opponents. The degree of zoom depends upon the weapon. When throwing a grenade use the Left Trigger to see where its going to go when you throw it. - Right Trigger – Fire/Throw
Fire your weapon or throw your grenade - Right Bumper – Reload
Reload your weapon, read Gears of War 2 Reloading for more info - Left Thumbstick – Move
Move your character with the let thumbstick/joystick - Right Thumbstick – Look (click to zoom)
Change your view and look around. Use in combination with the Left Thumbstick (Move) to get where you are going. Click the Right Thumbstick to zoom your weapon, if available (depends on weapon) - X – Use/Interact
Context-specific actions pop up on-screen showing when you can pick up ammo, kick in doors, etc… - B – Melee/Tag
Melee your opponent with your weapon (hit them with your weapon). A few weapons don’t have a melee attack, and a couple have special melee attacks. The Lancer Assault rifle’s “melee” is the chainsaw which is not as easy to pull off as it was in the original Gears of War. It seems everyone knows what that noise is now when your chainsaw engine revvs, and they don’t like it! The other melee attack is a “tag” with a grenade. In almost all cases if you can tag your opponent with a grenade you can write them off as expired. - A – Take Cover/Evade/Mantle
Okay, first off to pull of evade you need to be away from any surface that you will “take cover” to. As you are walking you can just hit A and your character will do a dive roll. Use Left thumbstick along with A to control the direction of your evade move. Take cover will almost always happen when you press A if you are near a surface and not already in cover. Mantle is context-specific and requires that you are in cover already and you move your Left Thumbstick till the context-specific action you want is displayed (Mantle or jump over, Swat Turn from cover-to-cover, or Cover Slip away from your cover into a walk).

Gears of War 2 Reloading
Nov 24th
Hit the Right Bumper and your reload indicator starts moving as your weapon reloads. If you can time it right, you can get a quicker reload with some boost to your firepower (depends on weapon) if you press the Reload button (Right Bumper) again while the indicator moves across the white or gray area.
MORE RELOADING
Want another edge in Gears of War 2, either over your single player Locust opponents or multiplayer human opponents? I played the original Gears of War countless times and never realized you could reload while doing a roadie run! Actually, I’m not sure that you could in the original, but you surely can in Gears 2.
You might have to tilt your hand slightly to get it done but its not difficult at all. So, run, shoot, run & reload and shoot some more! It might not be something you can do in every battle, but it can give you the edge

Gears of War 2 Tip: Intestinal Fortitude – Avoid Suffocating
Nov 23rd
In Gears of War 2′s Intestinal Fortitude one of the goals is “Pass through … quickly to avoid suffocation“, its difficult to see, and its a maze. You have about 30 seconds to 1 minute (that’s a guesstimate, I didn’t time it) before you start dying and things literally start getting dark. You need to focus on remembering where NOT to go next time so if/when you do die you can avoid the same dead ends.
When you hear Dom say “Dead end,” don’t wait to see it, turn around immediately and try a different way. Don’t try going back out from where you entered because you will still die.
The key is to stick to the brightest paths. When you see a path that’s dark go the other way.
