Gmail Adds Popout for Contacts
Aug 30th
Gmail has a great autocomplete feature when you are typing the email addresses or names of people you want to email. If you’ve ever had trouble remembering someone’s name, or email address then you will appreciate this new addition.
When composing a message you can now click To, Cc, or Bcc in the compose screen to bring up Gmail’s new Contact Chooser (in the red outline at right). The Contact Chooser has a search box at the top, a dropdown for all of the different categories of contacts and groups, a box listing the contacts that fall under the category of contacts or group you have selected, and a box listing the contacts you have chosen.
Contact chooser is a great addition and is flexible for different situations you may run into writing emails amdf can simplify writing emails a little bit.
QUICK GMAIL BITE: Gmail Contacts Gets an Upgrade
Feb 11th
In Four changes to Gmail contacts Gmail’s Benjamin Grol (Product Manager, Google Contact) notes four new enhancements to Gmail’s contacts, see below:
1. Contact merge (and an important caveat about auto-complete)
I’m sure this will be cool for people who use Contacts more than I do.
2. All Contacts
YES! YES! YES! I LOVE this new button and I was just using it tonight with my wife while searching for a contact “I knew” was in her contacts list (actually I was wrong).
3. Remove people from My Contacts
This will certainly be handy for some.
4. Search across all contact fields
YES! YES! YES! Great, I also used this to verify that I was wrong (see item # 2 above). Just like the All Contacts this is one of those things that after its added you just find yourself thinking this should have always been a feature.
All I can say to the Gmail team is to keep up the good work, and for people to keep suggesting things for the improvement of Gmail.
