Long Night of Solace Walkthrough (Part 1) – Spoiler Warning
Sep 25th
SPOILER WARNING: HALO: REACH WALKTHROUGH for LONG NIGHT of SOLACE
You are Noble 6, the newest member of Noble Team replacing one of their Spartans who died in battle (“Spartans never die, Jorge. They’re just Missing in Action”). Your arrival doesn’t go without notice as you immediately become the subject of discussion – specifically the ONI-edited account of your classified, and somewhat mysterious previous assignment. Moments later as you deploy with the Team Noble, Commander Carter (team leader) makes it clear that while your skills are a welcome addition, your lone wolf antics are not. Team Noble mounts up in Falcons and you are up and away and the mission (and the game) begin. More >

Halo: Reach – Armory VS Armor Abilties
Sep 19th
After the first time I my Halo: Reach disc in and watched the opening video I was not disappointed. Afterward when the game began and I was in the Armory I spent time carefully choosing my armor to gain maximum fighting advantage, probably close to 30 minutes. I didn’t realize that the choices you make in the Armory have no effect on the battlefield โ its a visual effect, unlike Armor Abilities.
Later, I was getting ready to play with my daughter, so I had her sit down and read through the Bungie site’s telling her that
she had to get to know how the armor worked (The Armory, Credits & Rank, and Customization) so she could choose better equipment, but I didn’t know I was mistaken because armor in Halo: Reach (and other Halo games) is only for visual effect.
ARMOR IS A VISUAL EFFECT
Beginning with Halo: Combat Evolved, the Halo franchise has immersed its players more deeply into their created worlds using rich and visually striking graphics, scenery and detail. This detail includes your armor, which allows you to customize your Spartan or marine.
ARMOR ABILITIES WORK ON THE BATTLEFIELD
Jet Pack | Sprint | Holographic Decoy | Active Camouflage | Drop Shield | Armor Lock | Evade
Where the Armor choices you make in the Armory effect
your character’s appearance in Halo multiplayer, the Armor abilities you choose actually have an effect on the battlefield.
- Jet Pack – you can fly
- Sprint – you can run
- Holographic Decoy – you get a digital double – you appear to be 2 targets to your enemy
- Active Camouflage – you have limited invisibility
- Drop Shield – you drop a spherical bubble shield (remember Master Chief using one in the Halo 3 Trailer?) which heals you and your Allies inside
- Armor Lock – heal your shields, get rid of grenades stuck to you, hit ‘em with an EMP
- Evade – just watch one of the Elites’ agile bounding around the battlefield for a demonstration of the Evade Armor Ability
Armor abilities are activated or toggled by using LB (in default controller configuration). Jet Pack Tip (I can’t remember where I saw this one, but it works): look straight down when you activate this ability and then run forward as the decoy would – you will fool some Covenant into thinking you are the decoy.

Halo: Reach Initial Impressions
Sep 17th
I finally got my hands on Halo: Reach last night… initial impressions and some base info below. The game is very impressive, but if you expect it to look and feel like ODST or Halo 3, you will be surprised. This latest installment of Halo has been re-worked to include a different feel, some more visual punch, some customization (armor, character’s sex, and some other stuff I will cover later).
Don’t get me wrong, it is different, but its also great, and certainly not a let-down.
BASE HALO REACH INFO
From the Official Halo: Reach site:
In 2552, the Covenant discovered the planet Reach, humanity’s last line of defense. The UNSC mounted an unparalelled assault against the alien war machine, and at the head of the conflict was Noble Team, an experienced group of accomplished soldiers preparing to meet the enemy head-on. Now, with the addition of the team’s newest member โ Noble Six โ this squad will face its most challenging mission yet: the defense of Reach…in what may well be the twilight of human existence.
- from the Official Halo Website
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS OF HR
The game plays more ‘personal,’ I don’t know how to put it. The player seems more real, heavier. Gunfire sounds closer, the effects when you take a hit are improved. The visual is also different, but I think I’ll get my brightness adjusted before commenting on video quality. However, I can say there is some breathtaking scenery in Halo Reach, to be sure.
Ooops, time’s up, more later!
Halo Reach is Coming…
Sep 3rd
Halo Reach is expected to be out on the Xbox 360 in Fall 2010 (UPDATE: Was released Sep 14, 200 in the US), according to the Official Halo Reach site.
Created by acclaimed developer Bungie Studios, Halo: Reach will be available fall 2010 exclusively on Xbox 360.
I’m dying to do some HOWTO posts on Halo Reach, usually I get too deeply involved in playing to remember to write much about Halo. Of course I’m excited to get into the actual gameplay/storyline as well, not just the writing part – oh and don’t forget to consider using a monitor instead of a TV!
1 Good Reason to buy Halo 3 ODST
Nov 7th
Hunters that you can actually kill from the front. They were unassailable from the front in previous Halo installments, but now can be killed from the front as it should be (IMO).
Previous Halo: Shoot a Hunter with a missile launcher, you just made him mad!
Halo 3 ODST: Shoot a Hunter with a missile launcher, you just made him dead!
Grenades can also kill from the front, but don’t bother with the ODST’s frag grenades (which are hard to control) or flame grenades (which just aggravate them). Grenades aren’t necessarily a 1 hit kill, but you don’t have to have a Hunter chasing you around all day until you run out of ammo and finally get killed because melee attacks certainly aren’t the way to go! Grenades plus your weapons can take him out from the front.
I do seem to recall that you could kill a Hunter from the front with a sniper rifle if you shot in the small opening that would be their “neck” (between head & shoulders), but this doesn’t seem to be the case now.
Side note: Assassin’s Creed 2 is coming!
